Our Class

Over all I really like this class. I never thought of ways to incorporate literacy into mathematics and honestly never thought it would be useful. However after taking this class I understand the need to incorporate it into my lessons to help my students be more literate and in turn be better mathematicians. I felt the pace of the course was good. There were readings but their was not to many that you couldn’t finish them. I also felt the readings were worth us reading like teacher man which I will finish during the break, it definitely made me feel more comfortable about making mistakes when I first start teaching. I do wish the class was later in the day but there’s nothing you can do about that.

thought on work

I have a little question for anyone who wants to respond to it. Basically the reason I have a job is because I couldn’t afford to do all the things I like to do; like climbing, hiking, skiing, camping, ECT. So I decided to get a job at camping store so I could have money to support these habits and get a discount on the things I needed and wanted to get. Now the problem occurs in the fact that, after all this time working their I have acquired the money and goods to go out for some really nice trips that I’ve always wanted to do. However to keep my job that I need to keep these habits it requires me to work a lot during the times I would normally go out and have fun.

So the question is actually more of a ratorical question… How am I supposed to have fun doing the things that I love to do if when I have the time I don’t have the money and when I have the Money, I don’t have the time?

Well one day when I’m making more then 8.75 an hour and have summers off then I guess I will have the time and the money

One last thing is it ever going to get cold enough for ski season to start. It’s taking forever!!!!!!!

Thanksgiving

This thanksgiving was really cool. At work, we decided to start a little tradition that will hopefully continue for more years to come. We decided to have a pre-thanksgiving on Wednesday night at my friend Chris’ house. It was a lot of fun. Everyone brought some type of thanksgivingie food; we wound up having like 4 different kinds of pies, about 5 pounds of mash potatoes, a whole pot full of stuffing; 1 can of yams(long funny story on the yams), cranberry sauce and finally White castle crave case. See we were going to have KFC because no one wanted to make a turkey, but who knew that KFC closed at 10, so we decided to go down the street at get white castle instead. It was a really great time I got to see a bunch of my friends that I haven’t seen in the summer and catch up with them. The only down side to it was the hang over on Thanksgiving Day, but it was totally worth it and I can’t wait till next year.

Why I want to be a teacher

Honestly, I didn’t realize that I wanted to pursuit becoming a teacher until the end of my sophomore year into my junior year. Up until then I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my life, I was good at building and programming computers so I figured I would go to a Tech school and do something with computers, just to make some money. It wasn’t really my passion but it was something I was good at and felt I could do it and be kind of happy. I also contemplated forest ranger and other outdoorsy type of jobs because I love the outdoors and I’m not really the person that can sit behind a desk for long periods of time with out loosing my mind. To sum it up I really didn’t know what the hell I wanted to do, I just knew what I was good at.

In the middle of my sophomore year, my math teacher approached me to help a fellow class mate in geometry, and since I had a 100 average in the class (literally) I figured why not. The girl I was tutoring had learning disabilities in math and was failing the class at the midterm. I started by just helping her with her homework and later on started talking to the teacher and teaching her minnie lessons of what they were going to do the next day in class to get her in the mind set before she was in the class. It worked, in the next semester she got a B in the class. It made me feel a satisfaction that I couldn’t describe seeing her satisfaction when she got that grade. I also, loved teaching her. It just made me feel real good to see how it all of a sudden would just click when she figured it out. While she still hates math, I feel she has a greater appreciation for it now that she understands it better.

After that semester, I decided that I wanted to become a teacher. I applied to all teaching colleges and I began tutoring for money at the school. The more I tutored the more I loved teaching even if all my students were not as thrilled to have me helping them as I was to help them. By the end of my senior year I was tutoring half of my pre calc class for the final.

So basically, the main reason I want to be a teacher is because I love to teach, it’s my passion. Sure I want to teach the youth of our nation and well prepare them to think critically in their pursuits in life, whether it be college or going out to the real world, but what it comes down to is that this is what makes me truly happy, and I really can’t wait to start teaching

my weekend

So I had a very fun, but extremely stupid and painful weekend. My friend at work was house sitting for one of our managers who's son happend to have built a 6 foot half pipe. So, after we got permision to use it, a bunch of us from work decided to go there with a 30 pack and try it out. Now i don't know what made me think that after about 45 minutes of messing around on this thing in my rollerblades, that I was ready to drop in from the top, but I was totaly ready. I took my blades off, ran to the top of the pipe, and but them back on.

I then edged to the side ready to drop in when I looked over the edge and realized I totaly needed another beer. After a quick drink I was ready to go....don't worry I had a helmet and knee pads on... and then I droped in. I was all good until the pipe leveled off, then in a glorious split second, my feet completely came out from under me and in one loud thud I landed flat and hard on my back.

After the laughing stopped my friends helped me up. I am glad to say that other than a lot of sourness and a couple bruises, I'm fine and actually really want to try it again but I think this time I will get some padding for my back side!

History Presentation

I really liked your presentation. I thought it was a great idea to have use write our birthdays on the board to see where our birthdays fall in the perspective of history. In an actual high school class I do feel that you would have to concentrait the time line because everyone's birthdays will be a lot closer. However I do feel it is a good way to help conect the students to the history your teaching them.

I also felt that the history game would be a great way to review for a test in a high school setting but I think you should use the concept of the game and make up your own questions so that it is more taylored to what you are learning and not so broad in the range of material it covers.
